Driving the Denali Hwy!

The Denali Highway is a mostly gravel road that runs around 130 some miles between Paxson on Richardson Hwy on the east and west to Cantwell on the Parks Hwy to near Denali NP. The road is very scenic and has 2 BLM campgrounds along the way along with dozens of great areas to pull off for back country campsites. We even saw 4 or 5 Princess Cruise buses driving through there. It must be they enjoy showing their clients the beautiful scenery inspire of the gravel road.

We saw these swans along the way.

Joyce found this Caribou antler while we were on a hike. We had a 20 minute rock hop across a stream early in the hike. We enjoyed the hike but got rather wet after an hour or so as several rain squalls passed through.

We found this campsite about a quarter mile off the road. A nice spot to spend the night.

Sunset at Denali South overlook. We camped here after we finished the Denali Hwy hoping to get a look at Denali. We saw a few peeks but not the whole mountain like we had hoped. That would change the next day, which will be the topic of the next entry.
