After returning from the Arctic Circle we drove down Chena Hot Springs road and found a nice campsite (free) beside a pond just a short drive off the road. After a nice quiet night we drove down to the hot springs. We decide to spend a couple of hours soaking in the rock pool and then enjoy a nice shower. The springs were very warm (hot) to say the least.
On the way back down the road we saw this cow moose enjoying a nice pond on a hot day. We found a nice state rec campground to spend the night further down the road.
We drove down to Fairbanks to resupply the next morning. The skies were very hazy due to smoke from forest fires to the northwest of town. We headed east and south out of town trying to get out of the smoke. We drove more than 100 miles before finally getting away from the smoke. (see pic above)
We stayed at Fielding Lake SRA which has nice views of the lake and is free of charge.
